Word Scramble: unscramble the letters
Five scrambled words, from four letters up to seven. Tap the letters into the right order to spell a real word. HEART and EARTH both count: any word that uses every letter does.
How to play
- Tap the letters to fill the slots from left to right. Tap a placed letter, in the word or in the rack, to take it back.
- When the last slot fills, the word is checked. A real word moves you straight on to the next one. Anything else shakes and clears, at no cost.
- Stuck? Shuffle the letters for a fresh look, or take a hint: it locks the next letter of the word in place.
On a keyboard, type the letters, use Backspace to undo and Space to shuffle.
Scoring
Each word is worth 100 points, minus 25 for every hint, with up to three hints. After the third you can show the word, for no points. Five words make a game, for up to 500. There is no countdown; your time appears at the end.
How to unscramble a word faster
- Look for letter pairs that like to sit together: TH, CH, SH, ER, LE, ST.
- Try likely endings first. Many longer words finish in -ER, -LE, -ET or -AN.
- Alternate vowels and consonants. Most short words do.
- Shuffle. A new arrangement often shows a word you could not see.
Questions
Which words count?
Any English word in the public-domain ENABLE word list that uses every letter exactly once. The intended word is always a familiar one; another real word from the same letters counts just as much.
Is there a time limit?
No. Take as long as you like on each word. The total time is shown on the results, for anyone who wants to beat it.
Is there a daily puzzle?
Yes. Today’s puzzle gives everyone the same five words, new at local midnight, with a streak if you come back. Past days are in the archive. The main game deals five new words every time you play again.
